Disneyland Halloween with Preschoolers

Hi friends! This weekend my husband and I had the awesome opportunity to head to a Disneyland Halloween Time Media Event with our 2-year old, Adrian. It was a fun trip specifically designed to showcase all the fun you can have with your preschoolers at Disneyland this time of year. What I loved about this trip is that it was all about Adrian. As a Disney foodie, I even headed out a week earlier so I could cover Disneyland Halloween Treats so that I could focus all of my time and energy on our little guy. So this visit was all about him and what fun we could get into during Halloween Time. And there was A LOT! So let’s run down all of the fun things you can do during Disneyland Halloween with Preschoolers:

Disneyland Rides for Preschoolers

It’s been a while since I had to think about how tall my kids were and if they were big enough to go on rides. But now that Adrian is past the baby phase and is a whopping 36 inches, he can actually meet some height requirements and go on some rides!

Disneyland has quite a few rides that have no height restrictions at all, like: Alice in Wonderland, Jungle Cruise, “it’s a small world”, Casey Jr. Circus Train, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, King Arthur Carrousel, Mad Tea Party, Peter Pan’s Flight,  Storybook Land Canal Boats and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh,

At Disney California Adventure you’ll find any height rides as well, like: The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, Toy Story Midway Mania! and the Pixar Pal-A-Round. Then rides like Lugi’s Honkin Haul-o-ween (Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters during Halloween) and Maters Graveyard Jam-BOO-ree (Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree during Halloween) are great picks with a height restriction of 32″. My little one was able to go on both and let me tell you, he LOVED them!

Disneyland Character Experiences

Another great thing to do is find your little one’s favorite characters for an up close and personal Disneyland Character Encounter! There are plenty to choose from, at Disneyland you can meet Disney Princesses at Royal Hall, Tinker Bell at Pixie Hollow and stay a while for Storytelling at the Royal Theater.

In Disney California Adventure you can meet Anna, Elsa and Olaf in Hollywood Land, Pixar Pals at Pixar Pier, Lightning McQueen and Mater in Cars Land, and NEW! Vampirina in Hollywood Land! We had the chance to meet Vampirina during a media lunch and she is just too cute!

If your little one is into music and dancing (like ours is), then Disney Junior Dance Party is another great option! You’ll sing, dance, catch bubbles and laugh yourself silly—plus you’ll get to see Sofia the First, Doc McStuffins and Timon in person.

Mickey’s Toontown

There is so much for the little ones to do in Mickey’s Toontown! Stop by Minnie’s House to meet Mickey and Minnie, play for a while in Goofy’s Playhouse and Donald’s Boat then ride Gadget’s Go Coaster (for 35″ and up). I love that after a day in the stroller that you can park the wheels at the entrance of Toowntown and let the little ones get the wiggles out! And once the kiddos work up an appetite, stop by Daisy’s Diner for a Mickey Mouse Pizza and a Minnie Sundae from Clarabelle’s.

Disneyland Dining for Preschoolers

While on the subject of food, we found Mickey’s Toontown to be a great place to stop for the little ones for lunch. Between Daisy’s Diner and Pluto’s Dog House, there’s likely something your kiddo will love.

But honestly there are great Disney kids meals throughout the park! And if you don’t see something on the menu, be sure to ask a Cast Member if there are other options. As a parent of a very picky eater, we found plenty for Adrian to eat during our stay. And if you’re worried about your kids eating balanced meals during your stay, always take a look at Mickey Check Meals, so many great healthy options!

And honestly, as a Disney foodie at heart, it’s fun to see what Disney treats your little ones take to as well. For Adrian, it was popcorn! He’s typically a kid with few words, but we heard “popcorn” several times during our visit. Too cute!

Character Dining at Disneyland

One thing I would highly recommend is to make a reservation for a Character Dining Experience! We had the opportunity to dine at Storytellers Cafe for the new Mickey’s Tale of Adventure breakfast! That’s right, Mickey and Minnie are now at Storytellers, along with Chip and Dale and Pluto. The breakfast buffet is delicious with plenty of options for kids and adults and the laid back atmosphere is perfect for little ones. Adrian had so much fun meeting the characters and having them sign his autograph book.

Disneyland Shows and Parades

If your little ones get a good nap in (which I would highly recommend for preschoolers), it’s likely you can stick around in the parks late enough to catch shows and parades! Adrian loves music and bright colors so I knew he’d be a fan of Fantasmic and the Paint the Night Parade, which we were able to catch during our last visit. My tip for these shows for little ones is to grab a snack and get there early to reserve a spot where they can be sure to see all of the action. It’s also a great time to rest!

Resources for Families

During our recent visit we had the opportunity to take a tour of the Baby Care Center in Disney California Adventure. There is a center in Disneyland as well. These centers are the ultimate resource for families with little ones! Offering more than just privacy, Baby Care Centers are fully staffed and feature a host of helpful amenities for parents with infants and toddlers. Open during regular park hours, each full-service facility is complimentary for Guests and includes:

  • Nursing room with chairs
  • Changing room with tables
  • Feeding area with highchairs
  • Kitchen with microwave and sink
  • Main room with television, table and chairs
  • Vending machine offering formula, baby food, juice, diapers, wipes, sunscreen, pacifiers and over-the-counter medication—all available for purchase with a credit card

Such an amazing resource for families! If you didn’t know about the Baby Care Center, be sure to seek it out on your next visit to make sure that your Disneyland vacation is as comfortable and accommodating as can be.
